Construction Report: August, 2001
By Kacey Callinan, Assistant Project Manager
As you’ve probably read on our Journal updates, we were hit by not one, but two, trade union strikes since we last posted our Construction Report. Although it seems that each development we do gets hit by one strike or another, we’ve been lucky here at Iron Horse Lofts in two respects: not only did the painters strike end just before we were scheduled to commence our interior painting, but the quick and decisive actions of our General Contractor had the plastering work re-mobilized so that the Sales Office & Models’ building was able to stay the course without delay and is now in fact complete. As soon as it has properly cured (i.e., dried) and the alkaline levels balanced, we’ll start to paint the distinctive building colors – keep your eyes peeled!
Down in our underground work, we’ve still been having a difficult time getting some of the utility companies to complete their work on time, which has delayed the completion of the “joint trench”. During the re-sequencing, we have moved forward on pouring building foundations and now have over half the foundations poured and half the buildings framed. As soon as the joint trench work is completed, we’ll have more control in-house to get the site works back on schedule.
Inside the Sales Office & Models, all mechanical-electrical-plumbing “rough-ins” are done so we’ve been able to finish all the sheet rocking and taping. Next job is to start painting the base coats. Finish work has also commenced, with the ceramic bathroom tiles complete and the tubs, showers and sinks scheduled to go in next. Soon enough we’ll be installing the kitchen cabinetry and floor finishes.
Now that we’re nearing the exciting opening of our Sales Office & Models, the e-lofts marketing team will be notifying you by direct email and in the upcoming newsletter (if you’ve already registered!) of the exact opening dates and information on next steps.
