CONTRA COSTA’S FIRST LOFT DEVELOPMENT

BRINGS CITY STYLE TO WALNUT CREEK

Iron Horse Lofts Blends Live/Work Versatility with Room to Play

October 22, 2001—Urban style meets suburban leisure in Iron Horse Lofts, Contra Costa County’s first loft development.

Now open to prospective buyers, the 54-loft community is located in Walnut Creek, which the National Conference of Mayors has called “the most livable small city in the nation” and adjacent to the Pleasant Hill BART station.  It’s a dramatic addition to the Contra Costa housing mix—and a dramatic new context for loft housing, which was born in urban downtown neighborhoods.

“Iron Horse Lofts translates the live/work loft concept to a less congested setting,” says Rick Holliday, president of Emeryville-based Holliday Development, which developed the project with architects David Baker FAIA & Partners. “We’re surrounded by greenery and open space—perfect for anyone who enjoys an active lifestyle—yet you can board a BART train and be in downtown San Francisco in about 30 minutes. It’s the best of both worlds.”

Iron Horse Lofts is at the core of an innovative “suburban redevelopment” that’s transforming the area into a transit village. New office space, a membership sports facility, and a Marriott Hotel are scheduled for construction near the station. In addition, the county is currently considering proposals for building office and retail space as well as additional residential units within the BART area.

Beyond the BART station, the great outdoors beckons. Walnut Creek is home to eleven municipal parks and 1,800 acres of open space. And the Iron Horse Regional Trail, built on the old Southern Pacific Railroad right-of-way, runs parallel to the station. Connecting the cities of Concord and San Ramon, the 25-mile multiuse trail allows year-round hiking, biking, and horseback riding in a scenic setting that affords views of Mt. Diablo and the San Ramon Valley.

Iron Horse Lofts offers four versatile floor plans with one, two, and three sleeping areas and optimal separation of living and working areas. All of the lofts are built on three levels with private garages.
